Hotels Berkhamsted

The Kings Arms

The Kings Arms Hotel, 147 High St, Berkhamsted HP4 3HL, UK – 01442 866595

Food was 5 star! Service was 5 star! We really enjoyed our meal and stay here. Only slight negative was room was noisy while bar open downstairs (til 1am on sat) but this should be expected for a room above a pub and we enjoyed ourselves anyway. Nice original features in room with modern touches

Lovely, spacious pub. I was there with a group of friends for a late breakfast. The food was excellent and the prices reasonable. Lots of young families with babies there at the same time, but it never got crowded or noisy. Friendly staff, too. Highly recommended.

Premier Inn Hemel Hempstead West

A41 Service Area, Bourne End, Hemel Hempstead HP1 2SB, UK – 0871 527 8516

Nice and Quiet Hotel. Very clean and Great Services. Thank you to Mush for returning my daughters teddy bear by post. It is very much appreciated.

Directions given made it easy to get too. Rooms to usual standard, clean and plenty of space for all of us. Tea stuff lacked for number of us in room even after informing for additional days but not a problem, just asked at reception and staff so helpful. Breakfast / restaurant smallest i have been too, so busy at times. Dinner was lovely, breakfast edible but best on day 3, not enough Staff to cover a busy session (replenishing of food, drink and order service) all done by 1 member of staff. Although Staff right throughout our stay very nice, very helpful and always smiling. Deserved recognition for their effort. Cannot complain for duration of stay.

The Watermill Hotel

London Rd, Bourne End, Hemel Hempstead HP1 2RJ, UK – 01442 349955

Rooms are standard and clean. Room was really warm because the towel rail in the bathroom is on constantly. We were given a room with one big bed when we asked for a family room with 2 children. They did offer another room but the room with the big bed was actually better. They didn't have a cot, just as well we brought the travel cot. Oh, they put us on the 1st floor, with no lifts for the buggies it was a pain. Breakfast was good though, buffet style with good choice.

Attended a staff conference, staff at hotel friendly and helpful. A wonderful location and environment.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Berkhamsted Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

Alford Arms

Frithsden, Hemel Hempstead HP1 3DD, UK – 01442 864480

great beer. great service. LOVELY staff. amazing amazing food. go out of your way to eat there. you'll be pleased.

Nice traditional pub in the Chilterns. It's very twee but in an unaffected way. The garden in particular is very nice. The food was delicious. London prices, but that's what you'd expect for the area. There's an interesting house across the road and a vinyard with nice local wine less than five minutes walk away. Well worth a visit.

Berkhamsted Campsites and Caravan Parks

Norcott Campsite - Camping In The Orchard

Dudswell Ln, Berkhamsted HP4 1LE, UK – 07788 151022

If you enjoy proper wild camping like us then this is a great little campsite. Pros- Car park is right next to the camping area, fire pits are provided, wood to burn is easily found and the campsite is located in a lovely area for just relaxing by the tent or going on walks. Toilets are also available. Cons- the car park and camping area are both quite small so this can be a downer if it gets busy and you end up with noisey neighbours like we did on our second night. Although toilets are provided they are very old and basic with no lighting so make sure you take a torch in the dark and possibly your own toilet roll. Also drinking water was murky when coming out of the taps so we played it safe and stuck with bottled water. The campsite is located on the grounds of an old, huge house which outwardly looks quite spooky and there are a few stone Dragon features around which gives the place a lot of character which we loved! If you're happy with the basics then this could be the place for you however if you like to be located where all the action is and facilities are 5* then this probably isn't the place for you. We however will definitely be returning.
